RE Career Days 2016 at University of Oldenburg

Since about 10 years PPRE is inviting organizations (research institutions and companies) from different RE fields to participate in its annual RE Career Days, which usually take place end of October/early November every year. The audience consists of junior and senior MSc-Students from PPRE (Postgraduate Programme Renewable Energy), EUREC (European Renewable Energy Master Programme) and other students from University of Oldenburg interested in RE. Invited presenters are asked to provide a brief overview about their organizations, projects involved and most important to explain typical job profiles and required qualifications. Besides job opportunities and possibilities for internships a/o master thesis/PhD-projects are presented as well.

This year the RE Career Days were split up in:

Part 1 - Research Institutions (on 28.10.2016) with contributions from:

  • OFFIS Oldenburg (IT Institute / Energy, Smart Grids),
  • Forwind Institute (Wind Research),
  • Next Energy (Energy Systems Analysis & Storage, Fuel Cells and PV) 
  • UL DEWI - Dt. Windenergie Institut (Wind Res. & Consultancy)

Part 2 – RE Companies / Career Service (on 4.11.2016) with contributions from:

  • Career Service, University of Oldenburg
  • GIZ Founding and Innovation Center, University of Oldenburg
  • KnowRES Project, EUREC, Brussels
  • EWE AG/EWE Netz GmbH, Oldenburg (Distribution System Operator,RE Grid Integration)
  • KIT, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (Energy Storage, PV Power Plants)
  • Phaesun, Memmingen (Off-Grid PV Systems)
  • Suntrace GmbH, Hamburg (Concentrating Solar Power and PV Consultancy)
  • Biogas Weser-Ems, Friesoythe (Large Scale Biogas Plants)
  • DNV-GL, Oldenburg (Wind Energy Consultancy)
  • Energy Meteo Systems, Oldenburg (Renewable Energy Forecasting / Virtual Power Plants)
  • Enercon GmbH, Aurich (Wind Turbine Manufacturing, site assessments)

Between the joined sessions, students and presenters made use of the round table meetings during lunch and coffee breaks for further discussions and personal interactions. The RE Career Day was concluded with an informal dinner at a local restaurant.

The outcome of a brief evaluation approves that the RE Career Days are of mutual benefit for all parties involved: for organizations it’s an ideal platform to recruit highly motivated and skilled personal for internships, thesis topics and future jobs; on the other hand students get an insight into different job profiles, learn about different RE technologies and products available and get valuable contacts for future career opportunities.
