New Incomings for RE Master Programmes at University of Oldenburg

Edu Knagge (PPRE 1990/91)

On 4th of October 2017 the University of Oldenburg welcomed 32 new RE master students - 20 students enrolled in the Postgraduate Programme Renewable Energy (PPRE) and 12 in the European RE Master Programme organized by EUREC, Brussels.

Graduation Ceremony 2017

The twenty-ninth PPRE batch finalized their graduation ceremony in a touching event on March 31st 2017. The ceremony was organized by the graduation ceremony team.

Final Excursion Report

Juan Camilo Gomez Trillos, Saba Al-Sader, Dipta Majumder

On the 24 July, 2017, PPRE students of 2016/18 batch started their final excursion. The excursion was scheduled for one-week duration in the PPRE program at the end of the summer semester with visits to several organizations and places related to renewable energy.

The Plum Tree in Energielabor Garden

Hans Holtorf (PPRE 1988/89)

On their graduation, the PPRE students of the batch 1988 / 1989 planted a plum tree in the Energielabor garden. Today, this plum tree serves our students by giving shade for the lunch during the summer-term-lab-course on Thursdays - a crucial element in the PPRE summer term that has not changed throughout the life of the plum tree.

ForWind

ForWind has completed three big joint research projects in 2017 and Prime Minister of Lower Saxony, Stephan Weil, visited ForWind on 22nd of June 2017 during his summer journey.

PPRE-Challenge 2017: Clash of wisdom and youth

With a lot of hype and anticipation surrounding it, the long going tradition of the PPRE challenge was held this year on the 5th of July 2017. A challenge in which students of the PPRE program face their mentors of professors, teachers and tutors in two matches of volleyball and football.

PPRE presented at Stifterverband conference in Lower Saxony

As a follow up of being awarded the Ars-Legendi Prize in 2016 by the Stifterverband and the German Rector's Conference, PPRE was invited to present itself at the annual Stifterverband conference in Lower Saxony on March 30th 2017 in Hannover.

Excursion to PV Power Plant

On June 26th 2017, solar energy students (PPRE and affiliated programmes) visited the solar farm 'Fliegerhorst Oldenburg'. IFE Eriksen hosted the students at the 13.9MWp system in Oldenburg.

'SERIOUS Game' Berlin

On 26 May, 2017, four PPRE students - along with Michael Golba, Director, PPRE, attended a conference titled "Beyond Paris - What Future for International Climate Policy" in Berlin, Germany. The conference was arranged by AGEP, the German Association of Postgraduate Programs with special relevance to developing countries, and its partner Planpolitik.

For more than a quarter century Anil Misra has been contributing to driving the renewable energies forward in India. The high point in his career was his time at the University of Oldenburg. Misra was among the early graduates of the English language programme "Renewable Energy Use".

My Recent Involvements Regarding Renewable Energy in India

India has very high targets of renewable energy share in the overall generation capacity mix. Accordingly several initiatives had been taken by various authorities in India since past few years. At the moment the grid connected solar of about 13 GW and wind of about 32 GW are installed in India and ongoing continuous drives are existing for reaching the installation targets.

TellWind Workshop

TellWind is an initiative to help newcomers in the wind industry understand financial risk associated to uncertainties, often overlooked or poorly understood. TellWind offers workshops that explain how to drive successful wind farm economics through careful selection of the right product to optimize energy output while mitigating risk.

Phaesun Switches on Off Grid - A Remarkable Workshop for the Off-Grid Enthusiasts

Phaesun GmbH started conducting their Off-Grid-Expert's Workshop in 2011. The theme of this year's workshop was stand-alone electricity, water pumping and treatment. Over forty companies participated and put up an impressive exhibition. Over four hundred active participants graced the 2017 workshop.

Gatherings of Former Oldenburg Students

In 2017, former Oldenburg students visited the Renewable Energy India Expo in Noida, India; the Intersolar in Munich, Germany and the Asia Clean Energy Forum in Manila, Philippines. In addition, Harpreet Singh Dir (PPRE 2011/13) from REFUsol Co., Germany went on promotion tour in Bangladesh for renewable energy products.

Colombian Students for the Second Time in Germany

We had again visitors from the wonderful Colombia! This time, they were a group of 8 students from the chemical engineering program, from the University Jorge Tadeo Lozano (UJTL) located in the capital city: Bogota. The group was guided by Dr. Carlos Forero, who is the director of the renewable energies research group of the UJTL.

Loss Mechanisms in High Efficiency Polymer: Fullerene Solar Cells

The power conversion efficiency of polymer solar cells has increased over the last years and record efficiencies for single junction cells are now above 10%. The rapid increase in performance is largely due to the development of novel organic semiconductors with broad optical absorption and improved carrier mobility.
