Fernando Peñaherrera V., Ecuador (PPRE 2014/16, presently research assistant and doctoral candidate), and Juan Camilo Gómez, Colombia (PPRE 2016/18) from the research group Cascade Use (CCU) of the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg participated in the 15th International Conference on Environmental Science and Technology (CEST) in Rhodes, Greece, which took place from August 31 to September 2, 2017
Mr. Peñaherrera, a PPRE alumnus working on energy and material efficiency in professional data centers, participated in the EU-funded ReCreew Young Researchers meeting on August 30th with a presentation on “Technical and Scientific Perspectives for WEEE Young Researchers”. He also contributed to the 15th CEST-Conference with the research paper “Challenges and Perspectives on a Database Management System for the Sustainable Recovery of Critical Metals from Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment”.
Mr. Gómez, a current PPRE student, presented the results of his research activities within CCU with the paper “Resource Availability in Photovoltaics – Case Study: Tellurium”. Both sessions were part of Electric and Electronic Waste session of the conference.
Besides these topics, the session included presentations on other related areas such as urban mining, recovery of critical metals, and electrical and electronic waste management in different European cities.
