Oldenburg welcomed many of the pioneers and practitioners in the field of energy informatics in the “7th DACH+ Conference on Energy Informatics” which took place on the 11th and 12th of October 2018. What formerly started in the DACH region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) is now crossing boundaries to include more countries and practitioners to join the energy informatics exchange of ideas and discuss the state of the art and hence it is “DACH+” now.

This year OFFIS - Institute für Informatik (together with Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, Federal Ministry Republic of Austria, Swiss Federal of Energy and Gesellschaft für Informatik) organised the conference once again after 2012. Each year the venue is chosen in rotation in the DACH region.

This year the topics discussed included several aspects of home energy management, network operations, optimisation and interoperability, use-case based analysis. The conference also included a tools and methods workshop and poster session. One of the interesting and fun part of the conference was the “one-minute madness” where the poster presenters had to present themselves just within a minute to attract the audience to their poster and with that many creativities showed up.

Luckily, the participants of the conference could try the pride of Oldenburg and taste the Grünkohl. They also enjoyed the social events and a visit to ENERA open space.

The event was full of positive interaction and lots of networking. We, some of the PPRE also participated in the conference and had the chance meet up which is always a pleasant experience.

Next year, the DACH+ conference on Energy Informatics will take place in Salzburg and I am sure it will be as good as this time. It is a great conference if you are into informatics and energy.
