Optimised Heat Pump Management for Increasing Photovoltaic Penetration into the Electricity Grid

Right after his EUREC-Studies at Oldenburg University Cristian started working in the RE company Norvento Enerxía located in the city of Lugo, Spain. Currently he is involved in the development and construction of several wind farms in Spain that reach a total of 128 MW, which will be operational before 2020 contributing to meet 20% RE share EU target.

In the last years Cristian has been conducting an investigation in collaboration with the research centres CSEM and EPFL’s PV-LAB and its findings have been recently published in the journal "Energies". It deals with the creation of a new fast and simple heuristic control algorithm for heat pumps coupled with PV and domestic hot water tanks designed to achieve system operating costs savings whereas PV self-consumption is enhanced.

For those who may be interested, the article shows the design and the performance of the algorithm in comparison with other linear and nonlinear solvers, demonstrating that their simple algorithm is able to efficiently control heat pumps accomplishing the aforementioned objectives.
