SUMMARY:Mathematics Symposium – Core Competences in Mathematics Teaching
  in Years 1–6
DESCRIPTION:Basic mathematical skills in arithmetic form the foundation fo
r successful learning in mathematics lessons. Essentially\, this involves
developing a sound understanding of numbers and operations\, the foundatio
ns of which are laid in primary school and are to be further developed in
secondary school. This understanding determines whether children learn to
use and build upon arithmetic relationships\, or whether gaps in their und
erstanding become entrenched\, thereby preventing them from gaining deeper
mathematical insights.\nThis symposium focuses on these basic skills\, br
inging together the perspectives of primary and secondary education. The c
entre of attention is not only theoretical frameworks but also practical a
pproaches to assessment and support that can be applied to teachers’ own
  lessons. \nProgramme:\n08:30 – Registration\n09:00 – Presentation: “
Promoting basic arithmetic skills in primary school in a language-consciou
s and comprehension-oriented way” – Prof. Dr Daniela Götze\, TU Dortm
und\n09:45 – Presentation: “Ensuring the quality of (inclusive) maths
teaching in Years 5/6: The importance of assessing and supporting basic ma
thematical skills” – Prof. Dr Birte Friedrich\, University of Potsdam\
