SUMMARY:Numerical Methods for the Allen-Cahn Equation under uncertainty
DESCRIPTION:Master's degree module Numerics\nAs part of the Master's degre
 e module in Numerics\, we will speak on\nFriday\, 13 June 2025 at 2.15 pm\
, in room W01 0-012\nMr Henri Gerigk\nabout\nTitle: "Numerical Methods for
the Allen-Cahn Equation under uncertainty"\nAbstract:\nWe investigate the
nonlinear Allen-Cahn equation with the classical fourth order double-well
potential in the settings of gradient flows and discuss the existence of
solution using the Rothe method. We consider the implementation of finite
element solvers for the nonlinear time-stepping scheme\, including a semia
nalytic method. Lastly\, we discuss the use of the alternative-to-factoria
l technique to establish Gevrey-Class regularity for the solution of the A
CEquation with respect to the initial condition and showcase some applicat
ions related to uncertainty quantification.\n \nInterested parties are cor
 dially invited.\nsigned. Prof. Dr Alexey Chernov\n \nSchool V\nMathematics

SUMMARY:Bifurcation analysis for geometric PDE's
DESCRIPTION:Lecture announcement\n In the context of the advanced seminar
Analysis/Numerics \nspeaks\n Mr Alexander Meiners (University of Oldenburg
 ) \nabout \nBifurcation analysis for geometric PDE's \nF. Al Saadi\, E. Kn
 obloch\, A. Meiners\, H. Uecker\nThis talk will broadly cover bifurcation
problems within partial differential equations. As an introductory example
\, we explore bifurcations and stability in a semiconductor model\, while
reviewing essential concepts in dynamical systems analysis. In particular\
, we focus on Turing- Hopf mixed modes in the vicinity of codimension-two
bifurcation points. The main tool is numerical continuation in pde2path of
steady-state and periodic solutions. From that\, we consider geometric pa
rtial differential equations. Within this broad field\, we examine a model
for the shape of bilayer membranes-the Helfrich equation. We investigate
destabilising bifurcations from spherical and cylindrical topologies. The
spherical case serves as a model for the shape of red blood cells\, while
the cylindrical case reveals interesting bifurcations into non-axisymmetri
c solutions. We apply numerical continuation with the Xcont extension of p
de2path to both cases to study stability and secondary branches. In the cy
lindrical case in particular\, we also derive amplitude equations to furth
er analyze axisymmetric\, nonaxisymmetric and mixed-mode solutions. \nThe
 lecture will take place on Thursday\, 08.05.2025 \nat 14.45 - 15.30 in roo
 m W01 006 \nInterested parties are cordially invited. \nSchool V - School
