Prof. Dr. Hans Gerd Nothwang

Prof. Dr. Hans Gerd Nothwang is professor of neurogenetics at the University of Oldenburg. After having obtained his doctoral degree in biology from the University of Stuttgart, he worked as a researcher at the Institute Jacques Monod at the University of Paris VII, at the University of Tokushima (Japan), the Freiburg University Hospital and at the Max-Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics in Berlin. In 2005, he obtained his Habilitation from the University of Kaiserslautern. Since 2007, he has been professor at the University of Oldenburg, where he established the Research Group for Neurogenetics. For a number of years, Prof. Nothwang led the study committee for biology. He is the founding director of the Department of Neurosciences.

Prof. Nothwang took over the position of dean of the medical faculty as of February 2018.

Vice Dean of Research, Oldenburg-Groningen affairs and the promotion of early career natural sciences researchers

Prof. Dr. Anja Bräuer

Prof. Dr. Anja Bräuer has been a professor of anatomy at the University of Oldenburg since 2017. She studied biotechnology at the Beuth University of Applied Sciences in Berlin and completed her doctoral studies at the Humbold University in Berlin in 2002. She then worked as a research associate at the Centre for Anatomy of the Charité University Medical Centre in Berlin. After a stay at the Institute of Biochemistry of the University of Alberta (Canada) (2003-2004), where she worked as a research fellow, she did research at the Institute for Cell and Neurobiology at the Charité University Medical Centre in Berlin. In 2006, she was made junior professor for molecular neurobiology and, as of 2009, was the acting director of the Institute for Cell and Neurobiology. In 2014, she moved to the Rostock University Medical Centre, where she was acting director of the Institute for Anatomy and lead the research group Molecural Neurobiology.

At the University of Oldenburg, she has been the director of the Anatomy Division of the Department of Human Medicine since 2018 and Vice Dean for Research since 2019. 

Vice Dean of Structure

Prof. Dr. Falk Hoffmann

Prof. Dr. Falk Hoffmann is professor of health services research at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg since December 2014.

After training as a nurse, he studied nursing sciences and public health at the University of Bremen, where he completed his doctoral degree and obtained his Habilitation. His main research interests are pharmacoepidemiology, health services utilization of older persons and research using administrative data. He is a member of numerous research cooperations, working in several scientific societies (e.g., Deutsches Netzwerk für Versorgungsforschung e.V.; DNVF) and is section editor of the Journal of Evidence and Quality in Health Care (ZEFQ).

Prof. Hoffmann took over the position of Vice Dean of Structure as of July 2017.

Vice Dean of university-related clinical affairs and the promotion of early career clinical researchers

Prof. Dr. Friedhelm Wawroschek

Prof. Dr. Wawroschek has been the director of what is now known as the University Clinic of Urology at the Klinikum Oldenburg since 2004. 

Before coming to Oldenburg, he was a senior physician at the Urology Clinic at the Klinikum in Augsburg from 1996 to 2004 and received his Habilitation at the LMU in Munich. Born in Cologne, he studied medicine at the RWTH in Aachen und was assistant physician at the Urology Clinic at the Düren Hospital from 1991 to 1996. During this time, he also completed his doctorate studies (1992) and completed his specialist medical training in urology (1995). 

The fifty-four-year-old is an expert in urological surgery and medicinal tumor therapy. His research focuses on prostate cancer. He is an examiner for the Medical Association of Lower-Saxony in the fields of urology, medicinal tumor therapy and urine cytology, as well as an expert reviewer for various international journals. 

Prof. Wawroschek took over the position of vice dean of university-related clinical affairs and the promotion of early career clinical researchers in May 2018.

Dean of Academic Affairs

Prof. Dr. Dr. Klaus P. Kohse

Prof. Dr. Dr. Klaus P. Kohse studied chemistry and medicine at the universities of Bochum, Essen, Ulm and Tübingen, and obtained a doctoral degree in both fields. He completed his specialist medical training in laboratory medicine and clinical chemistry at the Nephrology Department at the Ulm University Hospital and the Department for Clinical Chemistry at the Robert Bosch Hospital in Stuttgart. He was a postdoctoral fellow (1987/88) at the Department of Pharmacology and Medicine at Stanford University Medical School. In 1995, he obtained his Habilitation in clinical chemistry and pathobiochemisty at the University of Ulm.

Since 1992, Klaus Kohse has been director of the Institute for Laboratory Diagnostics and Microbiology at the Klinikum Oldenburg.  Since 2013, he has been professor for clinical chemistry and pathochemistry at the Faculty for Medicine and Health Sciences at the Carl von Ossietzky University Oldenburg.

He has been committed to the project of the European Medical School for more than 10 years; since the school’s foundation, through his teaching in his fields of expertise. In October 2016, he took over the position of Dean of Academic Affairs.
