The marking behaviour of nominal groups in Polish verbs is being investigated as part of a postdoctoral thesis. The problem, albeit in languages of different types, was already the subject of a conference held in Oldenburg in 1999. The task is to delimit the verbs that show competing marking of NGs but do not cause a change in meaning, e.g. mówić do kogoś /komuś (say to jmdm/jmdm) from those that do change the meaning in various ways when the marking changes, e.g. kopać kogoś /coś; kopać w kogoś /coś (bump into someone; bump into something).
