The Fachhochschulreife entitles the holder to study in the relevant subject area at universities.

In the case of a dual-subject Bachelor's programme, the first subject must take into account the corresponding subject area. This applies in particular to a degree programme with the aim of becoming a teacher.

As a rule, the Fachhochschulreife is obtained at Fachoberschulen (FOS) with the respective specialisation. You can view the relevant degree programmes for each subject area here:

In addition to the standard qualification, there are other forms of Fachhochschulreife. These include, for example, the so-called "general Fachhochschulreife" with an academic and a practical part. In this form, the practical part determines the corresponding specialisation at universities.

To have suitable degree programmes checked in individual cases, contact the InfoLine Studies at an early stage, which will forward you to the Admissions office if necessary.

In many cases, it is also possible for applicants with previous academic appointments to take up a degree programme.

• Find out about previous academic appointments that confer a general qualification to study. These include state-recognised educators, master craftsmen, business administrators and others.
  
• Three years of vocational training and three years of professional experience often entitle you to study a subject-related degree programme.

If you have a higher education entrance qualification based on previous vocational training or would like to have this checked, you should compile all school and vocational training documents, prepare a CV and submit it to the Admissions office well in advance of your application.

If you have passed the "Examination for the acquisition of a subject-related higher education entrance qualification after prior academic appointment" (Z examination), you can apply for a degree programme at a university in Lower Saxony for which you have acquired a subject-related higher education entrance qualification through the examination.
