Academic appointments for a general university entrance qualification
The academic appointments listed below entitle you by law to study in any subject area at any university in Lower Saxony.
Master craftsman
This includes all master craftsman examinations taken in accordance with the Crafts Code, the Vocational Training Act or the Seamen's Act.
State-certified technician or
State-certified business economist
This includes all further training examinations at two-year full-time technical colleges or corresponding part-time training programmes following initial vocational training or, alternatively, seven years of relevant academic appointment in certain specialisations.
Training qualification
On the basis of further training regulations in accordance with § 53 or § 54 of the Vocational Training Act or § 42 or § 42a of the Crafts Code. The qualification must be based on a course comprising at least 400 teaching hours.

Certificate of competency for the nautical or technical ship service
This is based on the Ship Officer Training Ordinance. The qualification must be based on a course comprising at least 400 hours of instruction.
- Captain for service on merchant vessels of all sizes in all trades
- Captain for service on merchant vessels with a gross tonnage of up to 500 on national voyages
- Master on fishing vessels of all sizes in large-scale deep-sea fishing (BG)
- Captain on fishing vessels in small-scale deep-sea fishing (BK)
- Head of the engine plant for service on vessels with any propulsion power
Technical college degree
Based on the "Framework Agreement on Vocational Schools" of the Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of 7 November 2002:
- State-recognised agricultural business economist (at least 2400 teaching hours)
- State-recognised agricultural business economist level II (at least 1200 teaching hours)
- State-recognised business economist (at least 2400 teaching hours)
- State-recognised educator (at least 2400 teaching hours and 1200 practical hours)
- State-certified designer (at least 2400 teaching hours)
- State-certified home economics manager (at least 2400 teaching hours)
- State-recognised remedial teacher (at least 1800 teaching hours)
- State-certified technician (at least 2400 teaching hours)
- State-certified economist level I (at least 1200 teaching hours)
Advanced training qualification for academic appointments in the healthcare sector or for social care or social pedagogical professions
On the basis of federal state regulations: The qualification must be based on a training course comprising at least 400 hours of instruction. This includes the further training courses listed in the table.
