Motivation
Web services are self-describing, modular and autonomous application components that enable cross-application provision and utilisation of functions via the Internet Mobility, Security and Web Services, Wiehler G., ed. Siemens AG Berlin, 2004. The web service paradigm is based on a service-oriented architecture that represents an environment for distributed processing. SOA aims to provide the resources of a system on demand. These resources are made available to the participants in a network as independent services that can be used in a standardised manner. This approach serves as the basis for the loose coupling of resources Looselycoupled.com: Loosely Coupled - connecting with webservices. In contrast to the client-server model, the nodes involved in a peer-to-peer (P2P) network have equal rights. Completely decentralised P2P networks have no central coordination instance. The main advantage is that such systems are self-organising and can therefore be flexibly expanded or scaled. To date, there have been numerous scientific results in this area, whereby various models with different detailed properties are available. In principle, these models can also be used as the basis for a strategy for distributing operational application systems or for organising the communication paths between them.
Aim of the work
The aim of the Diplom thesis is to develop models for communication between operational application systems on the basis of web services and P2P systems. The following subtasks should be worked on:
- Scientific analysis of the requirements for P2P systems and their feasibility with web service technologies (UDDI, WSDL, SOAP)
- Comparative analysis of centralised and decentralised P2P models in relation to the requirements of operational application systems
- Prototypical implementation of a P2P network based on web services
- Evaluation of the results by means of a case study for distributed business application systems
