Pilot project for further education in special needs education for the city of Bremerhaven
Pilot project for further education in special needs education for the city of Bremerhaven
From February 2012 to January 2016, the pilot project "Further education in special needs education: pedagogy and didactics for learning and emotional and social development impairments at lower secondary and primary level" ran. A total of 39 Bremerhaven teachers with the second state examination were taught the concepts for integrating and implementing inclusive education in their lessons in seven modules by lecturers from the Institute of Special Needs Education and Rehabilitation in three cohorts of fourteen and eleven participants respectively.
Performance profile
The University of Oldenburg offers further education at university level with an academic qualification.
The further education programme is modular and can be studied over two years while working. The further education programme is divided into seven modules with a total of 78 credit points = ~1,950 hours of workload (~288 hours of course time + ~50 hours of supervised teaching practice + 34 hours of examination + ~1,578 hours of coursework).
Successful completion of the programme is certified by the University of Oldenburg in the form of a university certificate. The certificate shows the topics covered and the number of credit points.
Achievements from a successfully completed certificate programme can be credited via a certificate of equivalence if you are interested in further studies in the field of special education.
Modules of further education
The degree programme comprises the following modules:
Module 1: Introduction and Fundamentals: Special Education and Inclusion
| 3 compact units à 3 or 4 CP = 10 CP | The qualification programme is based on an introduction to the tasks of special educational support and the academic discipline of special education. The basic principles, organisational forms and concepts of special educational fields of action are dealt with. The focus here is on the mandate for inclusion in the education system, but also on scientifically sound approaches to realising the new tasks that arise.
| |
| Module 2: Learning support | ||
| 5 compact units 3 CPs each = 15 CPs | The module Learning Support focuses on the topics of diagnostics, support planning, learning support and social-emotional competence support against the background of the special problems of children and young people with learning impairments according to the KMK.
| |
| Module 3: Cross-categorical special needs education | ||
| 2 compact units 3 CP each = 6 CP | Module 3 focuses on an overview of the focal points of special needs education, their coincidence and the necessary multidisciplinary co-operation. Particularly challenging topics (transition from school to academic appointment, autonomy and participation) are important focal points of the module.
| |
| Module 4: Emotional-social development | ||
| 5 compact units 3 CP each = 15 CP | Behavioural disorders are everyday manifestations of school life. They put a strain on lessons, often bring with them considerable potential for conflict between pupils and teachers and impair learning processes. Against this background, teachers are required to have a high level of pedagogical competence in order to deal appropriately with the behavioural problems of their pupils. The module on emotional and social development deals intensively with the basic content of competent developmental support: theories, prevalence, manifestations, diagnostics, support planning, prevention and intervention are explained against the background of the school's mission in accordance with the KMK. The events offer information and knowledge as well as the first testing of innovative pedagogical forms of action that are indispensable for successful inclusive support (counselling, co-operation).
| |
Module 5: Didactics - Lesson-based support
4 compact units | The didactically appropriate structuring and design of lessons is the key to inclusive education. The module teaches the empirically proven key competences for successful implementation. The joint teaching of pupils with and without special educational needs, the structuring and use of effective forms of teaching, pedagogical-therapeutic measures and well-founded, cooperative support planning create a teaching environment that is conducive to learning and development.
| |
| Module 6: Teaching practice/teaching trials | ||
| 2 compact units à 2 or 4 CP = 6 CP | The implementation and practice-orientated reflection of the course content takes place under the guidance of experienced special education specialists (expert-novice discourses). Collegial counselling and support play a decisive role in all phases of special educational activities. For this purpose, regular times are available to work on relevant topics and questions, which may also arise from the scientific foundation and in-depth study.
| |
| Module 7: Examination module | ||
| 3 units of 2.4 or 8 CP = 14 CP | The qualification programme conveys the content set out by the KMK in its teacher training standards, which are confirmed in a certificate. The final examination module documents and verifies the qualifications acquired. Students are also given intensive guidance and support during the final phase in order to ensure that the competences they have acquired are safeguarded.
