The symposium focused on the question of circulating images that are handed down, transformed and forgotten, but also remembered anew, reactualised and reinterpreted. Based on the assumption that visual representations exist in the context of knowledge production and power structures, the organisers wanted to continue current discussions on dealing with images from the perspective of gender and postcolonial studies. The reason for reopening this topic area was the birthday of Prof Dr Silke Wenk. As young academics who are doing or have done their doctorates under Silke Wenk, the organisers hosted a conference for her, which offered the opportunity to continue debating the topics she has worked on. The feedback from the more than 150 participants, who were made up of established academics, cultural professionals, (former) young academics/doctoral students, current students and former students as well as numerous colleagues, friends and acquaintances of Silke Wenk, was consistently positive. The Salon des Elèves, in which former and current doctoral students presented their work and which was placed on the stage and thus as a backdrop to the event, was also very well received. Due to the numerous positive re-registering students, the contributions of the speakers and other panellists were published by transcript Verlag.
