Sandell Blend
Reference: Sandel (1995)

Sandell explored the acoustical factors that contribute to timbral blend: the auditory illusion where two distinct instruments fuse into a single perceived sound ("oneness"). Based on experiments using natural instrument pairs, the study identified the spectral centroid (the perceptual "brightness" or midpoint of spectral energy) as the primary driver for blend.

▼ How to
  1. Select a session button (Start Ins X) to test all pairings for that instrument.
  2. Listen to the combined sound of two instruments playing simultaneously.
  3. Rate whether you perceive one fused sound (oneness) or two distinct instruments (twoness)
