Bubble towers

Bubble Tower description:

To study the effect of different bubbling parameters on TEP production and movement. Bubble size, rate and time can be regulated.  Parameters at differing depths in the water can be measured to help discover the effect bubbling (as caused by breaking waves in the field) have on TEP production and movement as well as SML formation.

The towers are made of clear PVC columns (2 m) with 50x50cm clear boxes on top and holding 185 L each when filled. Bubbles are generated via pressurized air through glass fritz held at the bottom of the tower. SML samples are taken using the glass plate technique and outlet taps are placed at multiple depths in the towers for ULW sampling.
