There are two major challenges facing liver interventions: The complex anatomy of the organ and the need to retain sufficient remaining organ tissue and function. In this talk, we will provide an overview of the procedural steps and algorithms used in liver surgery planning and their application in the clinical setting. Aspects presented will include results from segmentation approaches based on deep learning and the transfer of virtual planning into the operation room using mobile devices and auditory display of instrument navigation tasks.
