Carl von Ossietzky – Composition-Prize 18th international Competition
for wind-ensemble with percussion

With the announcement of the 18th International Composition competition 2018 the Institute of Music of the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg intends to contribute to the expansion of the repertoire for wind instruments and percussion. For many years in numerous European countries a consistent brass-music scene has become established, in which melodies from traditional music are mixed with elements from Jazz and Rock music. The compositions submitted to the competition should fit to this genre. An authentic melody deriving from European traditional music is to form the basis of the submitted compositions.

Line-up:

Piccolo (optional), 2 flutes, 1 oboe, 2 clarinets in Bb, 1 bassoon, 2 alto- saxophones in Eb, 2 tenor-saxophone in Bb, 1 bariton-saxophon in Eb (optional), 2 trumpets in Bb (3rd optional), 2 horns in F, 2 trombones (3rd optional), 1 euphonium, 1 tuba, drumset, Percussion, Marimba (optional)

Duration: max. 10 minutes

The submitted compositions should not exceed an medium level of difficulty and should not have already been published of performed. There is no limitation of age of the participants.

Please, submit three copies of the composition anonymously, as well as an anonymous commentary of your composition with an indication of the source of the used traditional-music-melody. Please, also send a closed envelope containing name and address of the composer, as well as a short CV (biography). Submissions are only accepted by mail (post) – no E-Mail!

The premiere of the awarded compositions will be performed by the Ensemble Europäische Blasmusik (European Brass-Music Ensemble of the Institute of Music conducted by Peter Vollhardt) in 2019 in the University-auditorium.

18. Kompositionswettbewerb

Carl von Ossietzky - Kompositionspreis 18. internationaler Wettbewerb
für Bläserensemble mit Schlagwerk

Mit der Ausschreibung des 18. Internationalen Kompositionswettbewerb 2018 will das Institut für Musik der Carl von Ossietzky Universität Oldenburg das Repertoir für Bläserensemble und Schlagwerk weiter aubauens. In zahlreichen europäischen Ländern hat sich seit vielen Jahren eine Blasmusik-Szene etabliert, in der Melodien aus der Volksmusik mit Jazz- und Rockelementen vermischt werden. Kompositionen, die für den Wettbewerb eingereicht werden, sollen sich in diesem Genre bewegen. Grundlage der Kompositionen soll eine frei gewählte authentische Volksmelodie aus Europa sein.

Die Besetzung:

Piccoloflöte (optional), 2 Flöten, 1 Oboe, 1 Fagott, 2 Klarinetten in Bb, 2 Altsaxophone in Eb, 2 Tenorsaxophone in Bb, 1 Baritonsaxophon in Eb (optional), 2 Trompeten in Bb (3. optional), 2 Hörner in F, 2 Posaunen (3. optional), 1 Euphonium, 1 Tuba, Drumset, Percussion, Marimba (optional)

Aufführungsdauer: maximal 10 Minuten

Die eingereichten Werke sollen einen mittleren Schwierigkeitsgrad nicht überschreiten und dürfen weder veröffentlicht noch aufgeführt worden sein. Für die Teilnahme am Wettbewerb gibt es keine Altersbegrenzung.

Einsendeschluss ist der 31.12.2018
