Careers and Areas of Employment

When filling management positions, middle sized companies prefer young future managers from among themselves; two out of three companies choose employees of their own businesses. For ambitious new managers, it is worth staying in one business for some time. The opportunities for promotion in mid-sized companies are also attractive, as a large number of companies will face the unresolved issue of handing over the company in the near future due to old age. According to the Institut für Mittelstandsforschung (IFM), of around 71,000 companies in Germany that are handed over to a successor every year, 12.1 per cent are handed over to proven employees from their own ranks.
