Bremen Airport (BRE) is the closest (60 km) international airport to Oldenburg. Several international airlines fly to Bremen: Malaysian Airlines, Lufthansa, KLM, Air France and Turkish Airlines.

If you would like to get to Oldenburg by train, first you need to get from the airport to Bremen Central Station (Hauptbahnhof). For this, you can conveniently take the tram (Straßenbahn) number 6 once you leave the airport. Tram frequency is 10 minutes and it takes about 15 minutes to get to the central station.

If you arrive at an airport other than the above three, such as Berlin, Frankfurt, Dusseldorf or Cologne, taking the train will be the only feasible option to get to Oldenburg. If you arrive to Amsterdam you could use the train to get to Groningen and then using public express busses you could arrive to Oldenburg conveniently.

Public transport in Oldenburg

The public transport system in Oldenburg is provided by the VWG (website only in German).

Only means of public transit in Oldenburg is buses. Busses bring you to every corner of the city and they are punctual and clean. Here you will find information about each bus route (Linienpläne) and an overview (Netzplan) of the Oldenburg bus network.

Some bus numbers you should already know are 306 and 310 for the university.
