The inter-faculty graduate school "Social and Cultural Embeddedness of Autonomous Cyber Physical Systems" (SEAS) at the Carl von Ossietzky Universität Oldenburg seeks to fill the position of a

PhD student (m/f/d)
(pay grade 13 TV-L 65% for 3 years)

in the SEAS subproject "Social Automated Car". The position is associated with the work group of Prof. Dr. Markus Tepe (Institute for Social Sciences, Faculty I) and the PhD project is jointly supervised with Prof. Dr. Susanne Boll (Department for Computer Science). Autonomous cyber physical systems in safety critical domains, which are key to the digital transformation, are at the center of the SEAS graduate school. SEAS is gathering an interdisciplinary group of researchers to find answers for the technical, legal, and societal challenges posed by these systems. The SEAS subproject "Social Automated Car" studies the role of social norms for the interplay between autonomous vehicles and humans in urban traffic.

The area of responsibility includes:

  • Participation in the interdisciplinary research project,
  • conception and execution of research papers for doctoral qualification (dissertation), and
  • active participation in the study program of the SEAS graduate school.

Requirements are

  • An above-average academic university degree in Social Sciences (Political Science, Sociology, Social Psychology) or a related field,
  • very good skills in quantitative research designs and statistical analysis methods,
  • very good written and spoken skills in English,
  • experience with online-, field- and/or survey-experiments is advantageous.
