The Institute of Art and Visual Culture in the School of Linguistics and Cultural Studies (School III) invites applications for the position of a
Junior Professor (m/f/d) of Art History with a focus on Gender Studies
(salary level W1, tenure track)
This position is funded by the Federal Government-Länder Programme to support early career researchers. Pending fulfilment of the applicable employment laws, the fixed-term contract will initially be limited to a period of three years and may be extended by a further three years, subject to positive evaluation. A subsequent appointment to a tenured professorship at W2 level at the end of this period is intended in accordance with the relevant statutory provisions.
- hold an outstanding doctoral degree in the field of art history or art science;
- specialise in the areas of gender studies and modern art history, as demonstrated by relevant publications; the doctoral dissertation must cover at least one of the two specialisations;
- have the ability to teach art history with a focus on gender studies, as demonstrated by relevant courses taught;
- have published a position paper on planned research projects in the field of denomination (up to 4 pages).
Some experience with applying for and successfully raising funds as well as experience in interdisciplinary and international research collaboration is expected. The candidate is further expected to develop, carry out and collaborate in the School's projects within the University's focus areas of Diversity and Participation and Social Transformation and Subjectivisation as well as projects of the Centre for Interdisciplinary Women's and Gender Studies. Responsibilities of the chair also include reasonable participation in academic self-administration. The candidate will also teach courses in all degree programmes of the Institute (including the BA Art and Media as well as the M.Ed. Art for all school types). The Universities of Bremen and Oldenburg are linked by a collaboration agreement, and the applicant will be expected to contribute actively towards this collaboration.
The requirements for appointment are derived from Section 30 of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act (NHG). If a candidate was employed as a research associate or research assistant before or after obtaining his or her doctorate, the total period of doctoral studies and employment must not exceed six years.
