Stellenausschreibung / Job advertisement

The Institute of Social Sciences at the School of Educational and Social Sciences (School I) invites applications for a

W3 professorship (f/m/x) in "Sociological Theory"

as a permanent position. The starting date is 1 October 2024. The position holder will represent the sociological theory in its breadth and be able to relate different theoretical perspectives to each other and translate them into theoretically sound fields of application. The successful candidate must have a doctorate in social sciences and a degree in social sciences or a closely related field.

In teaching, the position holder represents the field of "Sociological Theory" in full breadth. We require the successful candidate to have a research focus that is compatible with research at the Institute in the area of "Knowledge and Organization" or "Social and Political Inequalities". Likewise, a connection to at least one of the three university research foci (digitization, sustainability and participation) is required, which should be addressed in the research concept based on previous project and/or publication activities. Since the Institute works empirically throughout, it is also advantageous that the applicant can already present his/her own empirical work, especially in qualitative social research, or can at least demonstrate the connectivity of his/her own work to empirical research. Due to numerous interdisciplinary collaborations at the Institute of Social Sciences, for example with computer science and natural sciences, the proven ability to explain sociological theories in a comprehensible way across disciplinary boundaries is desired.

The guideline for the appointment is a scientific track record in the above-mentioned research areas, which is demonstrated by publications in international peer-reviewed journals and equally renowned book publications. Experience in the independent acquisition of third-party funds is a prerequisite. The willingness to participate in the acquisition of coordinated research networks is a prerequisite and should be addressed in the research concept. As the University of Oldenburg and the University of Bremen are bound by a cooperation agreement, active participation in the cooperation is expected.

Requirements for employment are specified in section 25 of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act (NHG).

The University aims to increase its proportion of female professors and strongly encourages female scientists to apply. Therefore, equally qualified female candidates will be given preference. Applicants with disabilities will be preferentially considered in case of equal qualification. The position is suitable for part-time employment.

Please send applications (including a curriculum vitae, certificates and diplomas, as well as a list of publications, an account of previous third-party funded research activities focussing on the last 5 years, a research concept, a list of courses taught and formal presentations given) by 16.04.2023, preferably as a consolidated PDF file, to Carl von Ossietzky University Oldenburg, Attn: Dean of Faculty I, 26111 Oldenburg, Germany, . The application must also include the completed "Profile sheet", available here: https://uol.de/fk1/unterlagen-zum-herunterladen
