The Institute of Physics at the School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences seeks to fill the position of a
W2-Professorship (m/f/x) in Statistical Physics
starting as soon as possible.
The Institute of Physics consists of 16 established research groups with a strong national and international network. We are looking for a person with an internationally renowned profile, driven by the development and application of analytical methods, within at least one of the following research topics: Nonequilibrium dynamics of complex systems; Stochastic processes; Statistical mechanics of information.
The applicant is expected to participate in the research initiatives of the Institute of Physics and the school. Among others, these include the research Training Group "Dynamics at the nanoscale: From coherent elementary processes to functionality (DyNano)", the Collaborative Research Center 1372 "Magnetoreception and Navigation in Vertebrates", the Helmholtz Institute for Functional Marine Biodiversity or the Research Center for Neurosensors. Applicants must submit a research concept outlining collaboration for joint research projects at the institute, the school and the university levels. As the University of Oldenburg and the University of Bremen are bound by a cooperation agreement, active participation in the cooperation is expected.
For a successful application the following is required:
- Publication achievements in the topics of nonequilibrium dynamics of complex systems, stochastic processes, or statistical mechanics of information;
- Success in application of external funding;
- University teaching experience and didactic skills;
- Experience in supervising theses as well as doctoral dissertations;
- Research-oriented ties to the above mentioned research initiatives.
The tasks include teaching covering the entire spectrum of theoretical physics at the Institute of Physics in the basic courses of the Bachelor's program as well as in the advanced theoretical courses of the Master's program. The Bachelor's program is conducted in German. Therefore, the willingness to acquire sufficient German language skills at the latest three years after appointment is expected.
Prerequisites for employment are specified in section 25 of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act (NHG). The University aims to increase the proportion of female professors and strongly encourages female scientists to apply. Equally qualified female candidates will be considered preferentially. Newly appointed professors are supported by special coaching programs of the university.
