The "Ultrafast Coherent Dynamics" group at the Institute of Physics, Faculty V - Mathematics and Natural Sciences of the University of Oldenburg invites applications for a

Research assistant/PhD-student (m/f/d)

starting as soon as possible and initially limited (project-related) until 30.09.2025. The position offers the possibility to pursue a doctoral degree (PhD).

The aim of the research project is to explore new concepts for the control of ultrafast nonadiabatic molecular dynamics by polarization-tailored femtosecond laser pulses. In particular, the research shall apply advanced polarization shaping and photoelectron imaging techniques for the study and control of light-induced nonadiabatic dynamics in small molecules in the gas phase. The research is embedded in the collaborative research network “DyNano” recently funded by the “Niedersächsisches Ministerium für Wissenschaft und Kultur”. We offer a highly interdisciplinary scientific environment and provide expertise and scientific infrastructure to perform cutting-edge research in collaboration with national and international partners.

We are seeking highly motivated candidates with a qualifying university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in experimental physics and with a strong interest in the coherent control of ultrafast molecular dynamics. We expect practical experience in the following areas: generation, shaping and characterization of femtosecond laser pulses, photoelectron spectroscopy, ultrafast molecular dynamics and high-vacuum techniques. Very good command of English, both written and spoken, is mandatory. Good communication skills and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary international team are expected. Experience in programming and advanced data analysis is desirable.
