During the lecture an online Seminar Blog will be introduced. The protected online environment serves to create a format of a teaching/learning platform allowing to read results from colleagues, exchange and comment on ideas. It allows to administer media.
The overall course material will be uploaded to this environment (visible, when the course has started)
This course gives an overview to the Physics and the utilisation of renewable energy sources. The lecture handles this subject mainly from a natural scientific and technical point of view, nevertheless also social, historical and political aspects are regarded.
The different renewable energy sources are introduced, their most important physical laws and effects are explained and the magnitudes of their physical and technical potentials are named. The planned schedule of content for the upcoming winter term is subject to modifications:
Overview over global energy consumption patterns; current energy situation and importance of renewable energies; personal CO2-footprint/personal energy balance; Energy storage; Solar radiation & resources; Photovoltaics; Solar thermal; Biomass origin and biomass energy; Geothermal & ocean energy; Origin of wind and wind turbines/wind farms; Future power supply: scenarios; Hydropower; Transition of our energy supply: social and political aspects.
