Beschreibung
This course offers an introduction to auditory perception and auditory cognitive neuroscience. It consists of a lecture and a weekly hands-on seminar.
The lecture will give an overview of different topics in auditory perception and cognition, including the functional and structural organization of the human auditory system, perception and neural processing of different sound qualities (pitch, timbre, loudness, direction), auditory scene analysis, auditory attention, speech processing, and plasticity of the auditory system.
The seminar will provide hands-on knowledge on sound manipulation and auditory psychophysics. You will learn how to generate, manipulate, and analyze audio stimuli using MATLAB and will get to know common approaches and experimental designs used for psychophysical assessment of auditory perception. I recommend that you have attended the course “Introduction to scientific programming” or have other prior experience with MATLAB programming to be able to follow the seminar.
