Oregon Caves National Monument Photo Gallery (1995-1996)

This page contains pictures that I took during field work for my thesis, but you'll be able to read about that somewhere else on my site (eventually...). These were taken in November of 1995 and in July of 1996 in southwestern Oregon at Oregon Caves National Monument. The cave is located up in the Klamath Mountains, in the middle of the Siskiyou National Forest.

Now you are just one click away from seeing the full size equivalent of these rather large thumbnails!

Misty view from within the forest. Another misty autumn day high up in the Siskiyous.

The following pictures provide a brief virtual guided tour of the caves, without any of the potential hazards to your health. Enjoy.

Plaque at the main cave entrance. Picture of the Belly of the Whale passage displaying the characteristic "keyhole" cross-section.
Paradise Lost Room where drip rates are very high, causing these complex and massive draperies. The staining is probably from organics washed in from above. Harvestmen (daddy-long legs) bobbing up and down near the entrance of the Exit Tunnel.
View of Millar's Chapel. The Grand Column. Columns are formed when a stalactite joins ends with a stalagmite.
Younger draperies along a wall in the Ghost Room. Picture of coralloids probably formed mostly under water.
