Trans-Canada Train Trip (1999)

These images were taken during a train trip that took us from Ottawa, in eastern Canada, all the way to Vancouver on the west coast. After three days, we were happy to arrive and stretch a bit. After spending some time in the area, we went to the Rockies and rented a car to tour around.

View of our fellow travellers in the observation "bubble" of the train. Facinating scenery as the train snakes through Canada.
Our ferry, taking us from the mainland to Vancouver Island. Good to see that our ferry has all kinds of safety devices, just in case...
Painting on a carving workshop in Victoria. Details on a totem pole.
Scenery along the coast in Victoria. Details of a glass structure.
A glass structure as seen from below. Columns of a building.
Walking the log above the surf. Clock in the Vancouver train station.

Our next stop was in Washington State to look at some geology.

Glassy rim around a pillow lava. Columnar basalts formed during cooling.
Top view of a basalt column.

And of course, a few images from the Rockies...

View of the Athabasca Glacier, along with associated moraine field. Hiking along the glacier.
Great scenery. Another hiker's dream.
