Sociologist Jannika Mattes appointed

Prof. Dr. Jannika Mattes, previously Junior Professor for the Sociology of European Societies at the Institute of Social Sciences, has been appointed Professor of Organisation and Innovation.

Since 2018 the sociologist has led the three-member Emmy Noether Independent Junior Research Group REENEA dedicated to studying the regional energy transition. Mattes studied European Economic and Business Studies at the University of Bamberg and then took up a postgraduate research position in 2006. She completed her doctorate in Oldenburg in 2010 with a thesis which also earned her the “Weser-Ems Science Award for an Outstanding Thesis”. A year later she was appointed to the Junior Professor post. In 2017 Mattes won the “Prize for Excellent Research” awarded by the University Society of Oldenburg (Universitätsgesellschaft Oldenburg) and in 2018 the “Lower Saxony Science Award” from the Ministry of Science. Her research interests include innovation research, organisation sociology, energy transition and regional and international societal change processes.
