Strategic support for early career researchers

The University of Oldenburg takes into account the diversity of academic career paths and pursues the strategic goal of a culture of responsibility towards all its academics across the various career phases. The University of Oldenburg focuses in particular on early career researchers. To this end, it has adopted concepts papers that provide a guiding framework for the promotion of academics in early career phases. The promotion of transparent access to doctoral studies, the ability to plan careers and reliable framework conditions in the postdoc phase, as well as the compatibility of career and family and care responsibilities are important to the university.

Promoting skills at all career levels

The University of Oldenburg takes a broad strategic approach to promoting the skills of researchers and includes all career stages from doctorate to professorship. The University of Oldenburg supports its researchers according to their career phase or profile. The University of Oldenburg follows a competence-based approach to further training and qualification programs in accordance with the guidelines of the European Competence Framework for Researchers of the European Commission. All researchers, regardless of their status and employment sector, can be categorized into the four profiles R1 - R4 and supported accordingly. The Research Profiles Descriptors Last but  not least, the University of Oldenburg is aware of its responsibility to qualify its academics for the non-university labor market - the majority of academics will take on (management) tasks outside academia, which is taken into account in the courses offered.

Postdoc Appreciation Week 2024

UOL is also setting an example!

The aim of Postdoc Appreciation Week (PAW) is to recognize the (research) achievements of postdocs in Germany and to promote networking opportunities among postdocs. To this end, seminars, workshops and lectures at a large number of German universities, colleges and research institutions are open to postdocs throughout Germany for a week.
At the University of Oldenburg, the Postdoc Representation is organizing the workshop "Survive and Thrive in Academia" this year. The Vice President for Academic Career Paths, Equal Opportunities and International Affairs and the Vice President for Research and Transfer will also send a welcome address.

The role of AI during the doctorate

This year's Doctoral Candidates' Day on November 20, 2024 is dedicated to the topic of "AI in the doctorate" and the exciting questions of how (generative) AI is already being used in research, what implications its use in the doctoral process entails and how the UOL positions itself on the topic. Finally, the high resource consumption of AI use will also be discussed.
