Geriatrics Expert Tania Zieschang appointed
Dr. Tania Zieschang has been appointed Professor of Geriatrics at the Department of Health Services Research. She is also Director of the University Clinic for Geriatric Medicine at the Klinikum Oldenburg and Head of the Clinic for Geriatric Rehabilitation at the Rehazentrum Oldenburg.
Previously she was a consultant and acting medical director at the Agaplesion Bethanien Krankenhaus in Heidelberg. Zieschang studied mathematics in Moscow as well as mathematics and medicine at the University of Bochum, where she finished her doctoral thesis in 1994. She completed her practical year of Medical School in the USA. From 1998 to 2006 she received her training as an internist at the Bethanien Krankenhaus, the Centre for Geriatric Medicine of Heidelberg University, and at the University Hospital in Heidelberg. In the following years she received a research grant from the Robert Bosch Foundation and gained additional qualifications in clinical geriatrics and palliative medicine. Her main areas of research and clinical focus are training interventions for older people with dementia and the improvement of acute somatic care in patients with dementia.
