2.01.378 Design of Industrial Control Systems -

Event date(s) | room

Description

This module provides a comprehensive overview of the design of soft- and hardware for industrial control systems. This includes a view of interdisciplinary aspects that arise in conjunction with mechanical engineering and electrical engineering.

The design of industrial control systems differs significantly from other fields of application due to three main factors: On the one hand, the software is closely interwoven with the physics of the machine — often called Cyber-Physical Production System (CPPS) — which requires interdisciplinary thinking. Furthermore, production plants have considerably longer lifespans, which is why it is necessary to take into account how new techniques can be applied to existing systems. Finally, the field of industrial automation uses completely different programming languages and hardware platforms, and these influence what tools are accepted in practice.

The lecture teaches the necessary foundations of long-established technology, already established innovations related to Industry 4.0, aand current research work on how modern development methods can be brought into this field. The first half of the lecture is accompanied by an exercise about fundamental techniques, which are then used in a project work during the second half of the lecture.
