Research Projects and Sub-Areas
As a shared empirical basis, the Emmy Noether research group "Music History on Stage" is setting up a database that records the repertoire of historiographical music theater. In addition to this collective project, the work of the research team is divided into four sub-areas, each defined by its own thematic and methodological focus: The project "Performing Music History" examines historiographical music theater as a practice between historiography and art that provides new insights for historical theory. The other three projects are set within a framework of musicological theater studies, respectivly focussing on narrative strategies of historiographical music theater ("Staging Mozart" and "Staging Women Composers"), and on perceptual processes and the historical experience ("Music History in Popular Music Theater since the 1970s").
