Studying in Oldenburg

To philosophize in Oldenburg

The Institute of Philosophy at the Carl von Ossietzky University enables philosophizing in the following study programmes:

  • Bachelor programme for first semester students: Next to philosophy you choose a second subject within the allowed choices, which you will then study to the same degree of credit points. This programme is polyvalent, that means, you have the option to study in either the Master of Education ‚Values and Norms’ or 'Philosophy' (if you are aiming for the teaching profession) or in the Master of Arts programme ‚Philosophy’. Within the polyvalent Bachelor programme you may make a preliminary decision after one year already, by assigning religion scientific study parts and thus select the module path 'Values and Norms'.
  • Master of Education ‚Values and Norms’ for school levels at the Gymnasium, Grammar and Comprehensive schools, or schools for special needs; Master of Education, 'Philosophy' for Gymnasium (start from WS 2007/08 onwards).
  • Master of Arts ‚Philosophy’ (start from WS 2007/08 onwards).

  • All other study programmes are models that are running out and only possible for higher semester students - you may contact the secretary office for more information.

Students, who completed their studies may be accepted in an individually designed ph. D. programme.
