Educational Science with a Focus on School Pedagogy and Critical Race Theory

Anja Steinbach appointed

Dr Anja Steinbach has been appointed Junior Professor of Educational Science with a Focus on School Pedagogy and Critical Race Theory at the Institute of Educational Sciences. The junior professorship was established in the context of a new junior research group funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and entitled "Continuities and New Formations of Institutional Racism in Schools" (KoNIR).

Steinbach secured funding for the research group through the Ministry's funding line for research on right-wing extremism and racism. She was previously a research assistant at the University of Oldenburg's Institute of Educational Sciences.

Steinbach qualified as a primary and secondary school teacher for the subjects educational sciences, mathematics, geography (Sachunterricht) and history at the University of Oldenburg. After completing her First State Examination, she worked as a research assistant at the Institute of Educational Sciences, where she completed her PhD in 2018 and then stayed on as a postdoctoral researcher. Steinbach's primary areas of research include critical race theory in education and diversity-reflexive professionalisation in education.
