About us
The School VI of Medicine and Health Sciences comprises the fields of human medicine, medical physics and acoustics, neurosciences, psychology and health services research. Together with the four regional hospitals, School VI forms the University Medicine Oldenburg. Furthermore, the university cooperates closely with the University Medicine of the University of Groningen.
As part of a bigger initiative, our groups use multi-omics approaches (genomic, metagenomic, transcriptomic and metabolomic) to elucidate the molecular basis of human pathologies. In addition, we apply different omics techniques to study normal development and disease progression in different cohorts. Our groups collaborate with European and international teams on large-scale population-based projects. These approaches generate a large amount of valuable biological data
Your tasks
The position holder is expected to analyse long-read sequencing data and develop computational pipelines and omics data integration to identify genetic alterations and molecular mechanisms.
Tasks include:
- Establishing bioinformatics workflows to store and organize diverse Illumina and long-read ONT datasets.
- Establishing bioinformatics workflows for the analysis of ‘omics sequencing datasets that rely on state-of-the-art best-practices, tools and strategies.
- Project planning and analysing the collected omics datasets.
- Participating in graduate and undergraduate teaching efforts.
- Participating in collaborative research projects and proposal writing efforts.
Your profile
- Applicants should hold an academic university degree (Master or equivalent) and PhD in life sciences, computational sciences, statistics, or any other related field.
- High proficiency in the UNIX terminal environment and BASH programming, high proficiency in Python and/or other modern and mainstream scripting and/or programming languages.
- Experience with workflow managers such as Snakemake or Nextflow, distributed version control systems such as git, container development and deployment systems such as docker, and HPC workload managers.
- Familiarity with the state-of-the-art computational strategies and software libraries that are commonly used in the analysis and interpretation of NGS and OMICS datasets.
- High level of motivation, creativity, self-responsibility and self-organization.
- Demonstrated experience in scientific paper writing, figure making, and publishing processes.
- Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English.
