The Institute of Chemistry at the School of Mathematics and Science seeks applications for a 

Professorship (m/f/x) in Applied Physical Chemistry
 salary scale W3

within the Federal Program for recruitment of woman professors, commencing as soon as possible

The successful candidate shall teach subject-specific courses in physical chemistry for majors and minors at the bachelor, master, and PhD level in German and English language, and provide an internationally visible contribution to the research in the area of interfacial chemistry. 

Prerequisites are 

  • Proven experience in university teaching in physical chemistry on all qualification levels and the associated pedagogical-didactic aptitude.
  • Establishment of an independent research area supported by third-party funding in a current topic of experimental physical chemistry of surfaces and interfaces. 

Possible topics include the preparation of optically or catalytically active thin films or nanostructures and their structural and functional characterization, especially by means of spectroscopic methods, analytical characterization of transient species at surfaces and real operation conditions, or the physical chemistry of optically active biological interfaces. It is expected that the successful will contribute to at least one of the existing research foci of the School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences and the University (e.g. Sustainability, Future Energy, Sensory Neuroscience) and will participate in coordinated research programmes. 

The Institute of Chemistry is characterized by a cooperative and empathic culture. We therefore look for a scientist and team player, whose international reputation is documented by publication in international peer-reviewed journals, successful acquisition of third-party funding, and experiences in leading research teams.

As the universities of Bremen and Oldenburg are bound by a cooperation agreement, active participation in the cooperation is expected. 

Prerequisites for employment are specified in section 25 of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act (NHG).
