Special education scholar Ulla Licandro appointed
Prof. Dr. Ulla Licandro, formerly Junior Professor at the Department of Special Needs Education and Rehabilitation, has been appointed Professor of Heterogeneity and Diversity with Special Focus on Inclusive Educational Processes.
She was previously Deputy Professor for Language and Communication and its Promotion in Special Needs Education at the University. Licandro studied rehabilitation and speech therapy education at TU Dortmund University, Eötvös Loránd University (Hungary) and the University of Iowa (USA). In 2010 she moved to the University of Hanover, where she taught, conducted research and completed her doctorate with a thesis on the narrative skills of multilingual children. Supported by scholarships from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Robert Bosch Stiftung, she spent three research semesters in the USA at the Universities of Iowa and Ohio. Licandro and her research group are investigating linguistic interaction processes at educational institutions. She is particularly interested in language acquisition at the intersection of multilingualism, social disadvantage and linguistic-communicative impairments.
