Search in Stud. IP using the search function.
Register for the course.
The page with the heading "Event registration" follows.
You will now either receive a message that this course is blocked for you because you do not have the required prerequisite courses and must take a placement test.
OR
that you may attend the event and still have free courses. Put a tick in the box "I hereby agree and bindingly register for this course".
If you no longer have a free course, please complete the direct debit authorisation on this page.
The placement test results are binding. Course participants cannot decide on their own authority which course level they would like to go to.

Registration and placement
The courses offered by the Language Centre are open to all enrolled students and employees of the University. All students of the University of Oldenburg can book four foreign language courses of the Language Centre free of charge. In addition, a fee of currently 65 € (4 SWS) or 32 € (2 SWS) per course and semester is charged.
REGISTRATION DEADLINE for the winter semester 2024/25
Sunday, 01.09.2024 - staggered by language - from 08:00 until Sunday, 20.10.2024, 23:59 via Stud.IP.
Registration without previous knowledge
If you have no prior knowledge of the language you wish to study, register directly on Stud.IP for Basic Module 1 of your desired language.
Registration with previous knowledge
If you have successfully completed the previous course at the Language Centre and would like to attend the follow-up course, register directly on Stud.IP.
If you have previous knowledge of the foreign language and did not take the previous course with us, you must first take a placement test.
Placement test and enrolment for the English courses
In English, a 10-minute oral placement test (online) is required. The results of the placement test will be communicated to you directly at the time of the test. From the following day or from 01.09.2024 you can enrol yourself in the corresponding course or send an email to the Language Centre.
The results of the placement test are valid for one year. After one year, you will have to take another test, unless you have attended courses at the Language Centre in the meantime.

Placement test and enrolment for the Spanish courses
Beginners do not need a placement test and can register directly on Stud.IP for basic module 1 (A, B or C) (registration procedure for foreign language courses).
Interested students with previous knowledge must take a placement test.
Register by e-mail with the subject "UOL placement test " to ulrike.vonseggern@cervantes.es or
petra.pape@cervantes.es.
The results of the placement test will be communicated to you directly at the test or by e-mail. From the following day or from 01.09.2024 you can enrol yourself in the corresponding course or send an email to the Language Centre.
The results of the placement test are valid for one year. After that, the placement test must be taken again, unless you have attended courses at the Language Centre in the meantime.
Placement test and enrolment for all other languages
For placement in all other languages, please send an e-mail to the respective teacher of the course and make an appointment for a placement test. You can then apply by 20.10.2024 by emailing to
sprachenzentrum@uol.de with the test result.
Important information about attending the foreign language courses
Withdrawal from a course or change to another course is only possible until 20.10.2024 by e-mail to
sprachenzentrum@uol.de (not with the teachers). After this date, the course fee will be due in full or the course will be counted towards your 4 free courses.
1. only those who regularly attend a language course and have completed the portfolio required by the teacher can participate in the follow-up course and receive credit points for the course. Please note that the completed preliminary course or the placement test must not date back more than one year.
2. it is not possible to attend several course levels in a foreign language in one semester.
3. persons who have learned a foreign language as their mother tongue cannot, as a rule, attend courses in this language. Please read the FAQ for more information.
Although the Language Centre endeavours to provide all interested students with a place on a course in their language of choice, there is no entitlement to a place on a particular course in a particular foreign language. Interested students should therefore be flexible in their choice of language.
