TYPO3 Documentation
TYPO3 is the central content management system of the University of Oldenburg. There are many sources of information on the Internet for this CMS, which is widely used at universities. In addition, information relating specifically to the websites and corporate design of the University of Oldenburg is compiled here.
Quick start
Step by step: Create and fill new web pages
The most important steps for creating, filling and finally publishing new websites are listed here. Please pay particular attention to the keywords marked as important !
- Creating a new website
(BUT: As a rule, please do not create new pages to replace existing ones, but only replace the content with new content - this can easily have unpleasant side effects and is therefore "dangerous"! → see notes on major changes) - Edit the properties of the website - Important settings here:
- Configure/check the http address of the page (important!)
- How the page should appear in menus: Title, navigation title and breadcrumb title (important!)
- SEO information and meta tags (keywords for search engines, etc.) / social media: settings for the appearance when linking to social media platforms
- (and other options ...)
- Create a content element (content module of the page)
e.g:- "Normal" formatted text (incl. hyperlinks, lists, tables) and more (e.g. formatting links as buttons)
- Contact details / profile information / courses (Stud.IP)
- Graphics and videos/audios, possibly also as galleries/sliders
- Download documents
- ... as well as extended options such as customised navigation menus, calendars, news, maps, input forms and much more(→ overview)
- Options for formatting and placing content (frames, backgrounds, column arrangement, etc.)
- Review of the page (important!)
- Compliance with accessibility criteria
- Compliance with the guideline on gender-appropriate language and communication
- Suitability for dark mode
- Suitability for mobile devices (→ Test with smartphone or narrow browser window, especially for bulky content such as infographics and tables)
- If necessary, find and repair broken or invalid links
- Set the visibility of the page (activation after inserting the content and other options)
Note: These are only the most important entry points, which only cover a small part of the many possibilities. Use the green navigation menu, the A-Z keyword overview or the complete list of all our documentation pages to find more and delve into the details!
