Professor Verena Pietzner has been Vice President for Instruction and International Affairs at the University of Oldenburg since January 1, 2020.
Since 2014, Prof. Dr. Pietzner has been a Professor of Chemistry Education at the University of Oldenburg, and she is leading the learning laboratory “ChemOL- Chemistry in Oldenburg”. After her teacher study program of mathematics and chemistry in Bielefeld, Prof. Dr. Pietzner received her doctorate at the University of Technology in Braunschweig, and qualified as a university lecturer in chemistry education at the same institute. Before Prof. Dr. Pietzner was offered a professorship in Oldenburg, she had taught and performed research at universities in Würzburg, Koblenz-Landau and Hildesheim.
Prof. Dr. Pietzner also concerns herself with creativity, as well as the deployment of technology in chemistry classes, interdisciplinary chemistry classes, and chemistry related career orientation. Her research has taken her as a guest scientist to Japan and Israel. From 2017-2019, she was Dean of Studies of the Faculty V (Mathematics and Natural Science).
