For the University of Oldenburg, it is the longest-lasting and most important international cooperation, concluded just over six years after the university was founded: the partnership with the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen (RUG).
The cooperation agreement, which was first signed 40 years ago, was renewed by the two universities on Thursday, October 29, 2020. The ceremony took place at a small gathering in Oldenburg Castle and was broadcast live on the internet. Among the guests was Lower Saxony's Minister of Science Björn Thümler; the Groningen partners were connected online due to the coronavirus pandemic. In addition, digital workshops and symposia took place throughout the day, some of them open to the public.
