Participation in OLTECH courses and offers by the Graduate Academy are free of charge for OLTECH members.

Registration
Restistration is required via Stud.IP! It is essential that you use your student account (and not the staff account). If an error occurs or registration is not possible, first log into Stud.IP in general and then follow the event link.
You will be provisionally registered for the workshop. If there is a free place and you are eligible, the Graduate School OLTECH will activate you (you will then receive an automatic email).
Workshops that are already running (several dates) can no longer be booked.
Registration for offers by the Graduate Academy have to be made via the Graduate Academy webpage. Please indicate when registering that you are an OLTECH member. The own contribution (30,-€ per day) to be paid will then be taken over directly by OLTECH.
Prevention / Cancellation
If you are prevented from attending, please cancel your registration by email, as it is technically not possible to unsubscribe on your own. This is the only way to enable people on the waiting list to move up.
In case of unexcused absence from courses of the Graduate Academy, the own contribution (30,- per course day) will not be paid by the Graduate School OLTECH, but will be charged to the registered doctoral student by the Graduate Academy.
Exceptions
Waiting list/remaining places for non-members
- OLTECH reserves the right, after consultation and in exceptional cases, to admit persons to workshops who do not belong to the above-mentioned group of addressees.
- Remaining places may be allocated one week before the course date (there is no entitlement!!!).
- Interested CVO University Master's studentsand Postdocs should register provisionally for the workshop (waiting list).
- External doctoral students (e.g. from cooperating graduate schools) contact the OLTECH office to get a place on the waiting list, if necessary.
- Doctoral students from the University of Bremen then use their Shibboleth login for registration; others need a Stud.IP guest account, which in exceptional cases must be requested from IT Services by OLTECH

The seminar format "Career Insights Online " aims at introducing different career paths of marine scientists in the w idest sense and offers the possibility to get in touch with former members of the Marine Graduate Schools in Oldenburg\, Bremen and Bremerhaven. It focusses on career paths outside of academia and will give insights into j ob fields in\, for example\, industry\, administration\, consulting\, non- governmental organisations and journalism.
\nSpeakers are asked to t alk about their current position\, the interdisciplinary skills they achie ved during their doctoral phase\, the career steps they took\, as well as about work-family-life-balance. After a short presentation\, participants will have the opportunity to ask questions to the speaker.

\nThe ocean has a central role in Earth’s c limate system\, but also for how climate change affects humans. The vast m ajority of the anthropogenically added energy is stored as heat energy in the ocean\, the biological carbon pump extracts gigatons of CO2 from the a tmosphere and next to the issue of global warming\, ocean acidification an d sea-level rise are two fundamental marine facets of rapid environmental change. At the same time\, half of the human populations on Earth lives cl ose to the coast and their interaction with the marine environment is one of the tightest connections between humans and nature.
\nIn Septembe
r 2024\, UOL will host a two day symposium on “Climate\, People and the
Ocean”\, which among others will include scientific sessions with eminen
t speakers\, art-science interventions and workshops. We offer this unique
PhD course to prepare and conduct these workshops with an explicit focus
on questions relevant to early career researchers. We will start with an i
nterdisciplinary series of lectures from natural and social sciences that
will pave the way for a 1-day retreat (on July 11th\, 2024\, where we will
plan the workshop within the Oldenburg symposium (2 slots\, 1.5 hours eac
h on 10. and 11.9.2024). Both speakers and attendants of the scientific se
ssions will take part in the workshop.

Schedule
May/June: Video lectures: Basic knowledge and advanced topics (Hillebrand\, Wurl\
, Pahnke.\, et al.)
Lectures are provided as videos and discussed in
a flipped classroom format. Thereby each PhD student will work in their o
wn pace to watch the videos. Each video is 45-60 min\, we aim for ca 6 lec
tures. A full list of lectures and link to the videos will be provided end
of April 2024.
We will use a datefinder to select a 2-hr slot for a
Q&\;A session including the lecturers and PhD students. In this online
Flipped Classroom date\, we will discuss open questions\, hard to grasp c
ontent.
