Discovery Days in Mathematics, Computing Science, and Natural Sciences

An event hosted by School V - Mathematics and Natural Sciences, the Department of Computing Science, and the Department of Neuroscience

50 Years of Carl von Ossietzky University Oldenburg – 50 Years Open to New Approaches.

From the very beginning, the natural sciences and mathematics have played a significant role in the development of Carl von Ossietzky University. Researchers have set milestones and continue to address the major societal challenges of today. Generations of educators have been prepared for teaching in biology, chemistry, computing science, mathematics, physics, and technology here – for over 40 years on our own campus in Wechloy.

Today, our institutes continue to research today’s challenging questions with great dedication and curiosity: What materials, energies, and resources will we live and work with in the future, and how do we understand the world around us?

To celebrate our anniversary, we are opening our doors at Campus Wechloy, showcasing ourselves and our research, and providing insight into the many opportunities to shape the future at the School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, the Department of Computing Science, and the Department of Neuroscience.

Friday, 31.5.2024 9am – 2:30pm registered school classes only
Saturday, 1.6.2024     10am – 3pm    open to everybody

We will offer a large explorer's market on the central ring level of the main building and from there enable expeditions to various fields of knowledge and research. Look forward to:

  • Laboratory Tours: Take a guided tour through our laboratories and witness first hand where and how our researchers engage in innovative research projects daily. Explore our aquarium facility and observe an electron microscope up close.
  • Wind Tunnel Visit: Gain insight into the exploration of wind currents and learn about the development of wind energy systems during a tour of our wind tunnel.
  • Experimental Lectures: Participate in captivating lectures and discover the latest advancements in the fields of mathematics, natural sciences, and computing science.
  • Workshops and Interactive Experiments: Engage in hands-on experiences! Explore groundwater and soil, construct your own solar cells, and tackle puzzles in the mathematical game room.
  • Information on Study Programmes and Campus Life: Learn all about study options and the student experience at our campus.
  • Teacher Training Information: Explore how teachers are currently trained in mathematics, natural sciences, and computing science. We have the details for you!
  • Job Training Opportunities: Did you know the university offers job training in ten different professions? Not only in administration, but also in roles such as chemical laboratory technicians, precision mechanics, electronics technicians, animal caretakers, gardeners, IT specialists, and more, ensuring our ability to conduct research and teach effectively.

Programme details can be found on the German website.

We look forward to welcoming you!
