The Institute of Physics at the School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences seeks applications for a
Professorship in Technical Education
salary scale W3 (m/f/x)
commencing 2027-04-01.
The Institute of Physics consists of 16 established research groups with a strong national and international network, including two groups for education and educational research (technical education and physics education). Teacher education in both subjects with together approximately 500 pre-service teacher students is an integral part of the institute. The advertised professorship makes contributions to basic research in technical education and to professionalization of technology teachers and is linked to content research in physics, chemistry and environmental science.
We are looking for a person who excels in teaching and research in the field of technical education and who has experience in outreach and science communication. The teaching should cover technical education of the dual-subject Bachelor, Master of Education for secondary and middle schools, Master of Education in special pedagogy, as well as for General Science. For this purpose, a variety of collaborations are possible with the other educational researchers of the university and the scientists at Oldenburg and Bremen.
For a successful application the following are required:
- A doctorate in Technical Education or comparable doctorate
- University teaching experience and didactic and educational skills in the field of Technical Education, to be demonstrated by an overview of courses held so far and, if applicable, by available teaching evaluations
- Relevant expertise in Technical Education research, e.g. in the areas of energy and climate education, robotics, digitalization, or inclusion, as well as in analytical and empirical research methods and research-based educational developments; each demonstrated by relevant publications
- Relevant experience in the field of outreach and science communication of current scientific and technological findings as well as demonstrable links to existing and new outreach initiatives
- Experience in successfully acquiring competitive third-party funding
- Leadership and management experience
- Experience in supervising student theses and doctoral theses
- Very good knowledge of the German language, both written and spoken, at C2 level
The University of Oldenburg pursues the goal of promoting interdisciplinary collaborative research. Therefore, you will pursue close cooperation with colleagues at the institute and faculty and participate in cross-disciplinary and cross-faculty initiatives and developments in research, teaching, and continuing education. We hope that you will also take advantage of the opportunities offered by interdisciplinary connections with other institutes and faculties. This includes active participation in the Center for Teacher Education – Didaktisches Zentrum (DiZ), including its specific structures for continuing education and research funding. You will also participate in academic self-administration.
As the University of Oldenburg and the University of Bremen are bound by a cooperation agreement, active participation in the cooperation is expected.
Prerequisites for employment are specified in section 25 of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act (NHG). Professorships with a functional description involving duties in education science or didactics can only be filled with candidates who can additionally provide evidence of three years of practical experience at a school or suitable pedagogical experience, or appropriate empirical research experience corresponding to these duties.
