With this in mind, the University of Oldenburg is committed to making the paths and findings of scientific work transparent for society and to opening itself up to civic engagement in science.
The Knowledge Transfer team advises researchers on the topic of knowledge transfer, teaches the tools of good science communication and develops new formats for engaging with society, business and politics about science. In doing so, we cooperate with the Press & Communication department, as well as with decentralized initiatives such as the Oldenburg Network for Science Communication (OLWIK) and the press offices of university research institutes.
Consulting
We advise students and researchers on all aspects of knowledge transfer and science communication. This includes, for example, the development of a science communication strategy in third-party funding applications.
We also provide support in selecting suitable formats. Whether it's a panel discussion, science slam or radio interview - we are convinced that there is a suitable format for everyone and have created a tool for this: the Format-O-Mat. In just a few minutes and 13 simple either/or questions, the Format-O-Mat will tell you which format of science communication could suit you. Formats
Hirn vom Hahn
1 city, 8 pubs, 16 times science - that's the principle of Hirn vom Hahn. A pub evening to get to know people who have made discovery their profession: Between the counter and bar stools, Oldenburg scientists chat about their day-to-day work and their research. The different topics show: Science is anything but dry as dust and the world would be a different place without their findings. There are two 20-minute talks in each pub. Science Bench
One bench, two seats and plenty of space for scientific discussions in the middle of Oldenburg's city center - that's the idea behind the Science Bench. A scientist sits down on the bench in a central location and invites citizens to join them. The aim of this knowledge transfer format is to have in-depth discussions about scientific topics and real-life issues (e.g. the future of energy, climate change, artificial intelligence or digitalization in medicine). Podcast "Hirn gehört"
Presenting the people behind the research and getting people excited about science - that is the aim of the "Hirn gehört - Oldenburger Wissensschnack" podcast. Science Watch Party

Workshops
In the Science Communication workshop you will learn the basics of good science communication. The workshop is available to you at any time in Stud.IP in English and consists of four modules: Basics of Science Communication, Blogging with WordPress, Social Media and Creating Scientific Posters.
