The Centre for Migration, Education and Cultural Studies (CMC) continues the work of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Education and Communication in Migration Processes (IBKM) with a new focus. It researches current migration processes.
The Center for Migration, Education and Cultural Studies (CMC) will begin its work with the academic conference "Migration: Subjectivation - Education" on 21 and 22 June at the University of Oldenburg. It succeeds the Interdisciplinary Centre for Education and Communication in Migration Processes (IBKM) and will research current migration processes in close co-operation with internal and external university partners. This will also involve discussing the political, social and ethical options for shaping migration society.
"Never before have so many people worldwide been willing - or forced by environmental disasters, civil wars and other threats - to change their place of work or residence temporarily or permanently. Technical achievements and improved travel options are accelerating this development," says Prof. Dr Paul Mecheril, Head of the CMC and organiser of the conference. This leads to a reorganisation of structures and processes that affects not only the individual, but society as a whole. According to Mecheril, a scientific analysis is therefore urgently needed.
The conference lays the foundation for this. Almost 200 speakers and academics will discuss current developments in migration processes using the topics of religion, language and gender as examples. They will analyse the reality of migration society from the perspective of subjectivation and education.
