Series of lectures: Hölderlin

"'A more beautiful sociability than just the bourgeois one'. Hölderlin's view of politics in his time" - the public series of lectures on "Hölderlin" at the University of Tübingen begins with a lecture by Prof Dr Michael Franz, private lecturer at the University of Tübingen's Department of Philosophy and Vice President of the Hölderlin Society.

"'A more beautiful sociability than just the bourgeois one'. Hölderlin's view of politics in his time" - the public series of lectures "Hölderlin" at the University of Tübingen starts with a lecture by Prof Dr Michael Franz, private lecturer at the Department of Philosophy at the University of Tübingen and Vice President of the Hölderlin Society.

The literary scholar Prof Dr Sabine Doering and the philosopher Prof Dr Johann Kreuzer conceived the series of lectures and invited seven renowned Hölderlin researchers from Germany, Italy and Switzerland to the university. The academics will provide a representative insight into current research on the poet Friedrich Hölderlin (1770 - 1843). The thematic arc ranges from the question of Hölderlin's political views to detailed textual interpretations and Hölderlin's bold poetological and historical-philosophical drafts, with which he had an impact far beyond his time. At the end of the series of lectures in January 2013, there will be a lecture on Hölderlin's reception in the early 20th century and his remythicisation in the George circle.

The lecture series is aimed at a broad audience. It offers the opportunity to familiarise oneself with highly topical research issues at the intersection of literary studies, philosophy, history and cultural studies and to enter into conversation with international Hölderlin experts.

With the series of lectures on Friedrich Hölderlin, Doering and Kreuzer are deepening their academic co-operation, which has been institutionally anchored since 2010: Doering was elected President of the International Hölderlin Society in 2010, which is based in Tübingen and has over 1,200 members. Kreuzer has also been a member of the board of the Hölderlin Society since 2010. Both have published numerous works on Hölderlin.
