Prof. em. Dr Stefan Müller-Doohm, sociologist at the University of Oldenburg, will be focusing on Habermas over six evenings at the Karl Jaspers House.
The title of the public series of lectures: "Paths to communicative reason: Jürgen Habermas in dialogue with 20th century philosophy and social theory". Müller-Doohm recently published the first comprehensive biography of the great German intellectual with Suhrkamp Verlag.
To kick off the series of lectures on Thursday, 23 October at 6 p.m., Müller-Doohm will address the "dual role of Habermas as philosopher and public intellectual". The sociologist will introduce the foundations of Habermas' philosophy, which centres on the concept of communicative reason. He will discuss the relationship between Habermas' political philosophy and his political interventions in the public sphere. The evening will be moderated by Oldenburg philosopher Prof Dr Matthias Bormuth. The lecture will be followed by an opportunity for discussion. Admission is free.
